The most German cabbage recipe: fried cabbage with bacon. This easy-to-follow recipe combines tender cabbage with crispy bacon, creating a hearty and satisfying meal that's perfect for any occasion.


Fried cabbage with bacon step-by-step recipe:


Ingredients:

  • 1 onion

  • 150 grams of bacon

  • 1 medium-sized carrot

  • 200-250 grams of cabbage

  • 4 tablespoons of tomato paste

  • 2 tablespoons of flour

  • 300 ml of water

  • ½ teaspoon each of the cumin and coriander seeds

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Frying oil

  • Salt and pepper

 


Step 1

Finely chop 1 onion, cut 150 bacon into strips. Pour the frying oil into the pan, add the onion first and sauté. Then add the bacon and leave to fry.

Step 2

Slice 1 medium-sized carrot into slices. Finely chop 200-250 grams of cabbage. Add everything to the pan and mix thoroughly. Season with salt and pepper. Leave to cook under a lid for 10 minutes on medium heat.

Place 4 tablespoons of tomato paste in a small container. Add 2 tablespoons of flour and mix. Pour in 300 ml of water and stir again.

Grind 1/2 teaspoon of the cumin and coriander seeds. You can also use ready-made packet seasonings. Pour the seasoning into the pan and pour the tomato paste sauce over everything. Add 2 bay leaves and mix everything thoroughly.

Cook under a lid for another 15 minutes on medium heat.

After 15 minutes, place the finished dish on a plate and garnish with fresh herbs.
